Victron 3kVA 48V Off-Grid Energy System with 10.2kWh LiFePO₄ Battery and 5.5–6.5kW Generator – No Solar Required

  • Run suitable off-grid loads without solar panels, using battery power between generator charging sessions.
  • Victron MultiPlus-II provides 230V pure sine wave power, rated at 3kVA / 2.4kW continuously at 25°C.
  • Dyness Powerbox G2 provides 10.24kWh nominal lithium storage, paired with a separately specified 5.5–6.5kW-class generator.

Off-grid battery and generator power without solar

This Victron 3kVA off-grid energy system combines a MultiPlus-II 48/3000/35-32 inverter-charger, a Dyness Powerbox G2 LiFePO₄ battery and a selected generator in the 5.5–6.5kW class. The generator supplies accepted AC power and recharges the battery through the inverter-charger. When it stops, suitable connected loads continue to operate from stored energy without requiring solar panels.

Key features

  • No solar required: suitable where shading, limited space, seasonal use or site restrictions make a solar array impractical.
  • Battery operation between charging sessions: supply suitable loads without running the generator continuously. Actual generator hours depend on consumption and charging requirements.
  • Managed generator loading: PowerControl limits AC input demand, while PowerAssist can supplement an accepted generator supply with battery power when correctly configured.
  • Dyness lithium storage: 10.24kWh nominal capacity, IP65 protection and CAN/RS485 communication, with floor- or wall-mounted installation options.

Where to use

Consider this system for remote offices, cabins, rural outbuildings, seasonal accommodation, communications equipment and selected small-business loads where grid power or solar generation is unavailable or unsuitable.

Check daily energy demand, simultaneous loads and starting currents before specifying the package. The inverter’s continuous battery-powered output is 2.4kW at 25°C; a larger generator does not increase that battery-only rating.

Appliances such as pumps, compressors, kettles and electric heaters can place substantial demands on a small inverter system. Energian can help assess the intended equipment and identify which loads should operate only while the generator is running.

How the system works

With the generator stopped, the inverter converts battery DC power into 230V AC. When an acceptable generator supply is connected, the MultiPlus-II supplies the loads and uses available input capacity to charge the battery, within the commissioned limits.

The inverter charger is rated at 35A. A larger generator does not increase charging beyond this limit. Generator loads, charging demand and any PowerAssist contribution must be managed within the generator outlet, inverter, battery, cable and protection ratings.

No solar required does not mean no energy input is required: generator fuel replenishes the battery. Runtime, recharge time and fuel use depend on the load profile, generator model and operating settings; no fixed performance figures are guaranteed.

Installation and commissioning

This is not a plug-in installation. A qualified electrician must design the generator connection, earthing, protective devices, battery connections and load circuits. Installation can be arranged through trusted partners.

Dyness lists Victron Energy among compatible inverter brands. Confirm the exact battery firmware, approved communication cable, GX requirements and inverter settings before commissioning. Do not assume the inverter’s default charging profile is suitable for the battery.

Automatic generator starting is assumed. It requires a compatible generator and an approved control interface. A combustion generator must operate outdoors in a safe location away from doors, windows and air intakes—not inside the battery or inverter enclosure.
