Off-grid system without solar uses an alternative electricity source, typically generators (using gas, LPG or other fuels), or other renewable sources like wind- and hydro-electric ones, and powers it with batteries for energy storage.
Such setup requires a well-sized battery bank to store power and provide autonomy during periods when the generator is off. It also has an inverter to convert the stored energy from the batteries into usable AC power for your home or business and potentially a charge controller for other renewable sources.
How it works?
1. Charging: The generator runs to power your home and simultaneously charge the battery bank.
2. Powering the Home: Once the batteries are charged and/or when the generator is not running, the stored energy in the battery bank flows through the inverter to power your home's AC appliances.
3. Fuelling: Since there's no solar, the generator is your sole power source. You must ensure you have a reliable and continuous fuel supply, only if you not use an alternative renewable source like wind or hydro.
