Lithium Leisure Batteries
Lithium leisure batteries are deep‑cycle batteries (often LiFePO₄) designed to power appliances in RVs, campers, boats, and off‑grid cabins. They store energy more efficiently than traditional lead‑acid batteries and are built to handle repeated charge‑discharge cycles.
Key advantages
-
Lighter and more compact: Lithium leisure batteries can be up to about 50% lighter than lead‑acid equivalents, saving space and reducing vehicle weight.
-
Longer lifespan: They typically deliver several thousand charge‑discharge cycles (often 3,000–5,000+), lasting many years longer than lead‑acid batteries.
-
Higher usable capacity: You can safely discharge 80–100% of their capacity without damage, versus roughly 50% for many lead‑acid types.
-
Faster charging: Lithium cells accept charge much more quickly, sometimes up to about 5× faster than lead‑acid, which is useful with solar, alternators, or shore power.
-
Low maintenance and safer: They are sealed, require no watering, and include a built‑in Battery Management System (BMS) that protects against over‑charge, over‑discharge, overheating, and short circuits.
