Off-Grid ESS without Solar
Off-Grid Energy Storage Systems without Solar
A home energy storage battery will store energy for later use in your home. So, you can run your home on battery power, rather than drawing from the grid.
In homes with renewables, the battery will take its charge from the available renewable source. (Typically solar, though some homes use wind or hydro turbines.) But what happens if your home doesn’t have renewables for the battery to take its charge from?
In this case, the battery will simply charge from a generator! In the UK, using a generator to charge battery storage systems offers several benefits, including reducing fuel consumption, extending generator lifespan, and lowering emissions. When a generator is paired with a battery storage unit, the generator can run at its optimal load, charging the batteries. Once the batteries are full, the generator shuts off, and the batteries provide power to the load, minimizing generator runtime and fuel consumption, especially when demand is fluctuating.
If necessary, you can add solar panels and a solar charge controller later.
