Excel Power XL-DK-22S 20kVA Single Phase Diesel Generator
The Excel Power XL-DK-22S is a water-cooled, 1500RPM diesel generator designed for residential, commercial and industrial standby power applications.
It provides 20kVA / 20kW prime power and 22kVA / 22kW standby power at 230V single phase. A sound-attenuating acoustic canopy limits the rated noise level to 70dB(A) at 7 metres under free-field conditions.
The generator combines a four-cylinder Depco diesel engine, Depco alternator, automatic voltage regulation and a Datakom D100 control panel. It is supplied for hard-wired connection, with output sockets and automatic mains-failure equipment available as options.

1500RPM Water-Cooled Diesel Engine
The XL-DK-22S uses a Depco DEPCO-4R95 four-cylinder diesel engine. Its 1500RPM operating speed is suited to fixed standby and prime-power applications where durability, reduced vibration and longer service intervals are important.
The water-cooled engine has a displacement of 2.836 litres, a gross prime power rating of 25kW and a mechanical governing system. Fuel consumption at 100% load is rated at 7.1 litres per hour.
Stable Output for Sensitive Equipment
The Depco DEPCO-20-1 alternator uses a shunt excitation system and provides voltage regulation of ±1%. This stable output is suitable for a wide range of domestic and commercial loads, including computers, communications equipment, building services and other voltage-sensitive equipment.
Acoustic and Weather-Resistant Canopy
The generator is enclosed in a powder-coated steel acoustic canopy lined with sound-attenuating material. Its rated noise level is 70dB(A) at 7 metres under free-field conditions, making it suitable for homes, retail premises, offices and other locations where generator noise must be controlled.
An ultra-low-noise canopy is available as an optional upgrade for particularly noise-sensitive installations.
Datakom D100 Control Panel
The Datakom D100 control panel provides a clear interface for operating and monitoring the generator. It provides digital information including voltage, frequency and relevant engine operating parameters, together with protective shutdowns and maintenance alerts.
The control system can also be incorporated into an automatic standby installation using an optional Automatic Transfer Switch.
Optional Equipment
- Automatic Transfer Switch: Detects a mains failure, starts the generator and transfers the connected load automatically.
- External fuel tank: Provides additional fuel capacity for longer operating periods.
- Three-way fuel valves: Allow connection to a bulk fuel storage system.
- Battery charger: Maintains the starter battery while the generator is not running.
- Ultra-low-noise canopy: Provides additional sound attenuation for noise-sensitive sites.
- AREP alternator auxiliary winding: Improves motor-starting performance for demanding inductive loads.
- Output sockets: Available as an alternative or addition to the standard hard-wired connection.
Please note: Optional equipment is not included unless expressly stated in the quotation or order confirmation.

Standard Warranty
Excel Power 1500RPM diesel generators are supplied with a one-year or 1,000-hour limited manufacturer’s warranty, whichever occurs first. This standard coverage applies to both private or domestic use and commercial installations.
Mandatory Commissioning Requirement
Correct professional commissioning is required to validate both the standard and extended warranty.
- The generator must be commissioned into service by an authorised Excel Power dealer or a competent independent generator engineer.
- A formal commissioning certificate must be issued when the generator is placed into service.
- The warranty will be void if professional commissioning is not completed and documented.
Extended Warranty Option
Coverage can be extended to a two-year or 2,000-hour limited warranty by entering into a continuous service contract with an authorised Excel Power dealer.
To maintain eligibility:
- The service contract must begin when the generator is commissioned.
- Standby applications: Servicing must be scheduled at approximately six-month intervals, including one minor inspection and one oil-change service per year.
- Prime-power applications: An oil-change service is required at every 400 running hours.
Installation notice: This is a hard-wired generating set. Electrical installation, changeover equipment, earthing arrangements, fuel installation and commissioning must be designed and completed by suitably competent professionals. An Automatic Transfer Switch and output sockets are optional unless included in the product quotation.

Frequently asked questions
Can I run sensitive electronics?
Yes. The AVR maintains voltage within approximately ±1 %, which is suitable for most sensitive single-phase loads. Ensure the generator is correctly sized and consider starting currents for motors and compressors.
Can it start automatically during a power cut?
Yes. When paired with a suitably rated Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS), the XL-DFAW-22S can start automatically and take over the load when mains power fails.
How noisy is it?
The acoustic canopy gives a noise level of around 72 dB(A) at 7 m in free-field conditions, which is relatively quiet for a set of this size. Site layout and shielding can further reduce perceived noise.
What’s the runtime?
At 100 % load, fuel consumption is approximately 5.48 L/hr, giving around 13 hours from the 71.4 L base tank. At typical part-load operation, you can expect longer runtimes.
