150W Narrow ETFE Semi-Flexible Solar Panel with Black Backing
A lightweight, narrow 150W solar panel designed for permanent outdoor installation on motorhomes, caravans, campervans, boats and other off-grid applications. Its glass-fibre-reinforced construction, durable ETFE surface and black backing make it particularly suitable where roof space, weight and appearance matter.
Key Features
- 150W rated output: Suitable for charging 12V batteries when used with an appropriate solar charge controller.
- Unique narrow design: Only 510mm wide, making it ideal for restricted spaces and roofs with vents, hatches or other obstructions.
- Durable ETFE surface: More resistant to cracking, delamination and corrosion than conventional semi-flexible panel surfaces.
- Glass-fibre reinforcement: Provides a strong and durable structure while keeping the panel lightweight.
- Semi-flexible construction: Suitable for gently curved roofs and surfaces where bonding is preferable to fitting a conventional framed panel.
- Lightweight and slim: Weighs only 2.55kg and has a specified overall thickness of 3mm.
- Textured anti-reflective coating: Reduces reflected light and supports improved performance in cloudy conditions and when sunlight falls at an angle.
- Five-busbar solar cells: Designed to extract more power from the available surface area than older two, three or four-busbar cell designs.
- All-black appearance: Black backing provides a discreet installation on dark roofs, vehicles and mounting surfaces.
- Marine suitability: Sealed, waterproof construction with high resistance to saltwater environments.
- Ready for connection: Supplied with two 1m, 4mm² solar cables and waterproof MC4 connectors.
- Three-year workmanship warranty: Covers qualifying material and production defects.
Where to Use
This panel is designed for permanent outdoor installations where a conventional rigid solar panel would be too heavy, wide or difficult to mount. Typical applications include:
- Motorhomes, campervans and caravans
- Boats and other marine applications
- Solar lighting and monitoring systems
- Off-grid and backup power systems
- Charging 12V leisure or auxiliary batteries through a compatible charge controller
- Directly powering voltage-tolerant DC equipment, such as certain motors or pumps
- Compatible grid-connected solar systems designed and installed using suitable equipment
Please note: A suitable solar charge controller must be used when charging a battery. Direct-connected equipment must be able to tolerate variations in solar-panel voltage and current. Grid-connected installations require a compatible inverter and must comply with applicable electrical and installation requirements.

ETFE Surface and All-Black Design
The panel’s ETFE surface is designed for a longer service life than the coatings commonly used on standard semi-flexible solar panels. ETFE is a hard-wearing material with strong resistance to heat, corrosion and environmental exposure. It is also used in demanding architectural applications, including the Eden Project in Cornwall.
The lightly textured surface reduces reflection and helps the panel absorb light arriving from different angles. This is particularly useful during cloudy weather and in the morning, evening or winter, when sunlight may not fall directly onto the panel.
The black backing provides a discreet appearance on dark-coloured vehicles, roofs and mounting surfaces. The panel is not described as ultra jet-black, and its precise hue may vary slightly between production batches.
Installation and Connectivity
The panel can be bonded to a suitable surface or mechanically secured using bolts or screws, subject to the installation instructions and the requirements of the mounting surface. Its semi-flexible construction makes it suitable for gently curved applications where a rigid framed panel may be impractical.
Two 1m lengths of 4mm² solar cable are factory-fitted to carry the panel’s output with minimal power loss. Waterproof MC4 connectors allow connection to compatible extension cables, charge controllers and other solar-system components. Several panels may also be connected together where the receiving equipment, cabling and protection devices are suitably rated.
