The starkest and most obvious difference between Type 1 and Type 2 EV chargers is the design of the connector. Type 1 EV connectors have a five-pin design, usually taking on a circular design. In comparison, Type 2 EV connectors have seven pins.
What is it needed for myEnergi Retrofit Tamper Kit?The myEnergi Tamper Retrofit Kit to be used with Zappi’s that have an ‘H’ in their model number. If your zappi does not have tamper detection built in you are required to install this kit if the device is being installed in England, Scotland or Wales on or after 30th December 2022, to be compliant with the smart charging regulations.
What is Zappi Type 2?Zappi Type 2 is an EV charger with a difference. Not only does it operate as a traditional EV charger, it can also charge your EV using 100% FREE energy generated from your Solar PV or wind generation. In addition, besides a bit of a facelift, the Zappi Type 2 has a 1 and 3 phase option (with one phase you'll get one CT clamp, with 3 phase you'll get 3).
When weighing the costs of tethered and untethered EV chargers, consider that tethered chargers typically cost more upfront, as the cable is included in the price. Untethered chargers are initially cheaper, but you may need to purchase a charging cable separately, potentially minimising the price difference. However, the Zappi is the same price regardless of being tethered or untethered making it the perfect solution for both uses.
Is a tethered EV charger more secure?Tethered chargers are more secure than untethered chargers due to their permanently attached cable, preventing theft. Untethered chargers’ detachable cables are more susceptible to theft, but many models feature added security measures such as pin protection or cable locking. To keep the cable safe, it’s best to disconnect and store it out of sight when not in use.
The Zappi Type 2 is compatible with all plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles (EVs) that use a Type 1 or Type 2 connector. It also supports a range of charging speeds, from 2.3 kW up to 22 kW, depending on your EV’s capability.
