The main difference between Type 1 and Type 2 EV chargers is the connector design. Type 1 connectors have a five-pin, circular design, whereas Type 2 connectors have seven pins.
What is Zappi Type 2?Zappi Type 2 is an EV charger that can also use 100% free energy from solar PV or wind generation. It offers both 1-phase and 3-phase options, with the latter including three CT clamps.
Tethered chargers generally cost more upfront because the cable is included. Untethered chargers are cheaper initially, but you might need to buy a cable separately. Zappi chargers are priced the same whether tethered or untethered.
Is a tethered EV charger more secure?Yes, tethered chargers are more secure as the cable is permanently attached, reducing the risk of theft. Untethered chargers with detachable cables are more prone to theft but often include security features like pin protection or cable locking.
The Zappi Type 2 is compatible with all plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles using a Type 1 or Type 2 connector. It supports charging speeds from 2.3 kW up to 22 kW, depending on your EV’s capability.
